Light therapy or LED phototherapy (Light Emitting Diode) uses rays of light that imitate those from the sun to energize and soothe the body, particularly the skin.
This artificial light, called the "broad spectrum," enters through the retina and is passed on to the brain. It influences hormones, such as melatonin, linked to sleep quality: it’s used by NASA astronauts to help them fall asleep. It also impacts neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, which is responsible for mood, and cell renewal, which affects the hair and skin’s youthfulness. Depending on the color of the lamps (red or blue), different issues can be treated: acne and rejuvenation. At Maison Lutétia, light therapy can be performed by itself or as a complement to a facial treatment to increase the results.

Are you in the mood for a gentle, relaxing treatment to enhance your skin or revitalize your hair? Light therapy, with its purifying and rejuvenating effects, can improve skin texture, smooth imperfections, and strengthen the hair while boosting well-being.
During an aesthetic consultation, the expert doctor recommends a protocol of several sessions or in addition to aesthetic medicine treatment. Depending on your indication, several types of phototherapies are possible:
A rejuvenating and anti-imperfection phototherapy session with a red/orange light penetrates the dermis to fight cell aging and improve skin texture. This beam of light also accelerates skin healing and skin prone to acne or purplish stretch marks. The red light increases microcirculation and the supply of micro-nutrients.
A purifying phototherapy session with blue light acts on acne: its anti-infectious properties treat the bacteria responsible for excessive sebum that causes pimples.
Your skin is cleansed before the session. Protective glasses are placed on your eyes during the session.
Session: 20 to 30 min
It’s the same treatment. It uses LED light that energizes and soothes the body, skin, and hair.
Light therapy impacts hormones and neurotransmitters responsible for sleep quality and happiness! Thus, a few light therapy sessions can regulate your mood and boost your well-being.
Our experts advise against "home" phototherapy sessions, as the machines sold to the general public lack power and are often bad quality. These machines may also be equipped with UV lamps, which are harmful to the skin. We recommend light therapy sessions to complement aesthetic medicine, or a treatment adapted to your skin's needs.
Depending on your skin problems, the doctor recommends a protocol of 6 to 12 sessions. After each session, the results can be appreciated, better skin texture, radiance, and youthfulness. The overall quality of the skin is boosted. Light therapy also influences your mood: smiling is crucial to the protocol!
An average of two to three sessions per week are recommended to optimize the effects of phototherapy.
Although light therapy is a medical procedure in its own right, many of Maison Lutétia's treatments are combined with LED phototherapy to increase the effects.
This treatment combines a restructuring and antioxidant complex of micro-nutrients with a LED treatment. It’s used to moisturize the skin, give it a glow by firming it and prevent the first signs of aging. Ideal for those who are looking for a gentle, painless, and invisible treatment to preserve their youth and natural beauty. The light therapy at the end of the session soothes the skin and gives it new energy.
The TCA or fruit acid peel triggers the peeling, renewing to beautify the skin. As it can be irritating, our experts systematically include an LED session after a peel for its anti-inflammatory properties.
LED is also associated with reducing any redness and optimizing the effects of the treatment.
The light activates cell growth and stimulates skin and hair regeneration, revealing their radiance and youthfulness. With time, cell renewal is slower: light therapy helps fight against skin aging, providing strength and energy to the body.
Light regulates circadian rhythms, called endogenous rhythms, sleep cycles, body temperature variations, and mealtimes... When the internal clock is out of sync, a few light therapy sessions can fix this and help the body find balance, with notably better sleep quality, by stimulating melatonin production.
Light regulates hormone secretion, such as serotonin, linked to happiness. Phototherapy thus acts on your mood and fights against aggressive behavior and depression: premenstrual syndromes, postpartum, winter blues, and eating disorders...
Light stimulates the body’s entire healing process and improves the immune system, which tends to weaken as we age. It promotes a healthy brain and heart and prevents infections.
LED panels exposed to the skin are cold lights, meaning they do not produce UV rays, like tanning booths. Therefore, they do not present any risk to the skin!
Also, the LED light should be distinct from a laser. Light (hot) is captured by melanin before being transformed into heat to destroy its target (For example, the depilatory laser)!
Not to be confused with heliotherapy, which treats certain diseases with sunlight, rich in ultraviolet rays.
