At Maison Lutétia, our scalp micropigmentation experts perform gentle, non-invasive scalp micropigmentation to give a harmonious illusion of restored hair, or a "shaved head" effect for patients who wish to keep their hair short.
Also known as hair tattoo or derma-pigmentation, scalp micropigmentation (SMP for short) is an aesthetic technique for men and women that requires a genuine level of expertise, high precision tools and a highly developed artistic sense. It consists of creating a semi-permanent hair tattoo on hairless or thinning areas using micro-dots. The pigments used are of natural origin and are painlessly implanted into the surface layer of the skin.
Micropigmentation is harmless to the skin, hair and hair cycle and has no side effects or contraindications, except in the case of specific dermatological problems (scalp eczema, seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff). Moreover, this technique is non-invasive and utterly painless.
A long-lasting solution adopted by many men and women suffering from partial or complete hair loss, hair micropigmentation helps restore self-confidence and self-esteem by restoring the illusion of a rich, well-defined hairline.

A long-lasting solution adopted by many men and women suffering from partial or complete hair loss, hair micropigmentation helps restore self-confidence and self-esteem by restoring the illusion of a rich, well-defined hairline.
For those who want to keep their hair short, it is possible to create an undetectable "shaved head" effect, using micro-dots close together, which darken the head evenly, with a perfectly defined hairline.
When hair transplant is not recommended (patient too young, hair loss not sufficiently advanced, insufficient donor area...), micropigmentation can be a solution to create the illusion of greater hair density without going through the hair transplantation process. And if you are not yet ready for a medical procedure, this aesthetic technique stands as a good compromise.
If you have already undergone a hair transplant and the results are not up to your expectations, and you would like to complete the result, this technique can also satisfy you. It is recommended for correcting donor areas related to hair transplants performed with archaic methods, such as FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), which leaves a long scar behind the head, or FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), which favours the appearance of donor marks, or IFA (Automated Follicular Implantation), which leaves holes related to aggressive harvesting of the donor area. Finally, if your hair transplant has given you a "doll's hair" effect, micropigmentation is ideal for filling in the spaces between the grafts.
The expert scalp micropigmentation artist can cover a completely hairless area for a successful "shaved head" effect. It is the ideal solution for people who want to stay shaved! In the case of re-densification, these pigmented micro-dots of the exact colour of your hair create a trompe-l'oeil, softening the contrast between the scalp and the hair.
It is also possible to conceal birth marks, accidental scars, or scars from FUT or FUE methods (strip technique or Follicular Unit Extraction). However, hair transplant scars can only be concealed if they are more than 6 months old. A scar can be concealed by covering it with micro-stitches for a blended effect.
The expert adapts the colour of the pigments and the shape of the hair patterns to the individual's needs, for a natural, undetectable result. This means that each micropigmentation project is unique and fully personalised.
Whether you are a man or a woman, this technique does not exclude anyone and offers confidence and assurance to those tempted. There are many profiles of micropigmentation enthusiasts: a woman who wants to make her hair denser in the parting, a man who wants to rework his overall hairstyle... Everyone can have a good reason to use micropigmentation. The aim of the expert scalp micropigmentation artist is to understand the nature of your hair problem in order to propose the most suitable aesthetic solution for your needs.
First, an assessment is made with the scalp micropigmentation artist, either in video consultation or directly at Maison Lutétia. This step allows him or her to get to know you and to understand your hair needs. If micropigmentation is a good indication, a second appointment is booked for the procedure itself.
The practitioner uses a hypoallergenic black pigment, which is diluted to a greater or lesser extent in water to match the colour of the patient's hair.
If necessary, you will be shaved by us with a 0.2 mm guard-free clipper. This facilitates the work of the scalp micropigmentation artist.
Depending on the area treated, the session takes between 2 and 5 hours. The work is performed with a single-use handpiece equipped with sterile microneedles. A complete redensification of the skull requires more work from the practitioner than the definition of an implantation zone. The duration of the session varies according to the size of the area to be treated. In any case, several sessions are needed to satisfactory absorption of the pigment.
Three sessions spaced 5 to 10 days apart are necessary to fix the pigments. During the first session, the pigments may be rejected by the skin, so the pigment colouring is optimised during the second session, and a third session is necessary for the finishing touches.
As for the maintenance of the micropigmentation, a colour enhancement is to be expected approximately every 2 years depending on the pH balance of your skin. Your lifestyle also plays a role in the retention of pigments. For example, if you are often exposed to the sun, or if you sweat excessively, the colour will tend to fade more quickly. Caution: the use of Minoxidil can also contribute to the deterioration of the pigment.
● An immediate concealing effect
● An ideal technique for men and women
● Suitable for all hair types
● Conceals androgenetic, diffuse, traumatic alopecia as well as scars due to an accident
● A non-invasive procedure
Please note that micropigmentation does not replace a hair transplant.
All in all, micropigmentation is for you if:
● You wish to conceal a more or less important loss of hair (or alopecia),
● You have a significant baldness, wish to harmonise your face, obtain a shaved head effect,
● You don't want to use camouflage cosmetics (powders, lacquers, etc.)
● Your donor area is not dense enough for a hair transplant,
● You want to redesign or define a homogeneous and natural hairline,
● You have a complex with scars from strip grafts, extraction points or FUE reception holes and wish to conceal them,
● You would like to complete a hair transplant for a better visual result, with greater density to the naked eye. In this case, micropigmentation can be performed as early as 3 to 6 months after the hair transplant.
● Bald men,
● Women suffering from alopecia,
● Those disappointed by a hair transplant,
● Those who have undergone skull surgery,
● Patients who have undergone heavy treatments such as chemotherapy,
● Those wishing to hide the scars of an accident,
● Those who want to camouflage a stabilised hair loss.
Short, long, short, curly, frizzy... In short, all hair types! However, patients with blond or white hair cannot be treated, as the pigment used by the expert scalp micropigmentation artist is not suitable for these skin tones.
The expert scalp micropigmentation artist designs an imitation of hair growth using a pen to pigment the skin, using dots or shading to reduce the contrast between the scalp and the hair, in order to realistically reproduce the hair shaft on the skull. The very fine needle allows him or her to place a natural and hypoallergenic pigment in the epidermis with precision, adapted to the skin's pH balance.
The colour of the pigment is adapted to the patient's skin tone by diluting it with water. The depth and distribution rate of the pigment will also be adapted according to the expected result. Depending on the desired density and the area treated, the follicles drawn will be more or less close together, to create an effect adapted to your desires. It is also possible to soften between the scalp and the long hair and to imitate the pattern of a shaved hair to blend the scar.
After the first session, you will be able to imagine the final result even though the skin is slightly red. You'll be both pleased with the result and eager to come back and see us!
After the second session, the results are more defined, as your skin has become accustomed to receiving the pigments.
A third session is necessary to perfect the final result.
No! In general, the scalp micropigmentation session is not painful, slightly uncomfortable. However, this depends on the sensitivity of the individual and the area being treated, as the skin at the top of the head is often thinner than at the back.
However, the experience of our patients can reassure you: some of them are surprised by the lack of pain, and assure us that the sensation has nothing to do with the pain of the tattoo! Since micropigmentation is not permanent, the skin is not penetrated as deep. There is therefore no risk of bleeding, except in rare cases.
● 3 days before the session: it is recommended to moisturise the area to soften the skin and to allow the pigment to hold better. This hydration will also help to reduce pain.
● On the morning of the session: make sure you wash your scalp. If this is not possible in the morning, do it the evening before the session.
Some redness may appear immediately after the session or soreness in the neck. Don't panic: they fade within 1 or 2 days and are often not detectable. A moisturising cream may be recommended to soothe the scalp. But in any case, you can go back to work without fear of being noticed. No social eviction is necessary.
Do not wash your hair for the next 3 days. Then you can wash your scalp with a pH-neutral, alcohol-free, paraben-free shampoo, a baby shampoo is also suitable. Apply a repairing moisturiser after shampooing and once the skin is dry, every day until your next appointment. Once all the micropigmentation sessions have been completed, you can return to a normal washing routine.
Avoid doing sports, swimming in the sea or in the pool for a week. And finally, avoid the sun, the hammam and the sauna for 15 days. Another tip: don't apply gel or hairspray the week after the session. The result will be even more beautiful!
This method requires specific expertise in the art of micropigmentation and the mastery of high precision tools. The person who does this is a professional hair restoration specialist and not a tattoo artist. He or she will choose the pigments according to the nature of your skin, and will make a hair design as realistic as possible according to your needs. The natural pigments do not run the risk of fading. Also, micropigmentation is not permanent, which again differentiates it from tattooing.
The pigmentation usually lasts 2-5 years before it starts to fade and a simple enhancement session is required. This can be an ideal opportunity to adjust and update the patient's look. The way you live, whether or not you are exposed to the sun, and the quality of your skin all have an impact on how well the pigments hold.
Very blond or redheaded patients can benefit from scalp micropigmentation treatment only if they choose to maintain a clean-shaven look at all times. The lighter pigments will not blend in well enough on long hair. This is why we do not recommend micropigmentation on long blond, red or very light hair.
