Eye rejuvenation

Sometimes as early as 30, signs of aging appear around the eyes. The eye contour is fragile, very thin, and flexible skin that is low in collagen and easily marked.
Rejuvenation of the eyes

Why do eyes change with age?

A soft, lively, charming look: why are your eyes important? Your eyes give off an emotion that can leave a mark, no matter their color. They play a role in communication. Sometimes, all it takes is a wink of an eye to make yourself understood and a blink of an eye to get someone's attention! But your face can lose its charm when the eye contour ages and dark circles, wrinkles, and bags appear. We're left with a sad and tired look. Taking care of our eyes is important as they are often considered the gateway to our soul.

Aging eye contour and weakening of the orbital region: The orbital region is the most fragile and delicate area of the face: the skin is very thin. It wrinkles and becomes marked more easily than elsewhere. The upper and lower eyelids are very mobile parts of the body. They’re solicited every time you squint, smile, or cry... As we age, the 15,000 lash beats per day eventually reach the support fibers, which causes the skin of the face to sag. The result: skin wrinkles and crow's feet emerge. At Maison Lutétia, multiple treatments are available to beautify the eyes and prevent and accompany eye contour aging.

What can be treated by aesthetic medicine:

Small eyes

We recommend absorbable lifting threads to open up your eyes, lift your eyelids, raise your eyebrows, and bring elegance and charm to your face.

Wrinkles around the eyes

These are the pretty expression lines that appear at the corner, on the side of your eyes, or between the eyebrows when you make facial expressions! About fifty facial muscles are called upon to express your emotions as soon as your face becomes active. As we age, these marks of time appear even when your facial muscles are at rest. The skin under the eyes can also wrinkle, and the palpebral-malar fold can deepen. To smooth and fill them, Botox® and hyaluronic acid injections are recommended.

Drooping eyelids

When the eyes start to sag,  drooping eyelids that darken the face, are difficult to camouflage with makeup, and moderate skin laxity, three to four sessions of PlexR (blepharoplasty without surgery) are ideal for tightening the skin, regaining an invigorated look and getting rid of excess skin. If you wish to raise the tail of your eyebrow and lift your eyes, you should apply absorbable lifting threads. A few sessions of SoftLift to lift the eyelid in case of ptosis are also recommended. Treatments can be combined for optimal results.

Hollow or black circles

Hollow or dark circles and the valley of tears deepen with time, giving the face a sad and tired look. An injection of hyaluronic acid is recommended to fill in the palpebral-malar crease and plump up the area from the dark circles to the cheekbone.

Sparse eyebrows

If your eyebrows are sparse, lack density, or you don't like their design, opt for an eyebrow transplant. This procedure redefines the eyebrow lines and gives them thickness, for a more harmonious face, with more character. Ideal if you’re tired of putting makeup on them every morning.

Wrinkled skin under the eyes

An injection of hyaluronic acid can fill in the furrows under the eyes, which gives your eye contour a wrinkled appearance. Micro-injections of botulinum toxin can be considered to smooth out these fine lines or prevent their formation.

Lift your look

If you feel that your eyelids are drooping and want to regain an invigorated, more sophisticated look with lifted eyebrows, try a session of absorbable lifting threads or a PlexR protocol. This is the solution to lift your look.

The different areas to lift your look

The upper third:

This is the forehead, temples, wings of the nose, dark circles, and bags.

Eyebrows:

Crow’s feet wrinkle may appear, and the eyebrow's tail may fall off over time.

The orbital frame

It's the fragile area around the eye, which wrinkles easily, especially with crow's feet.

The valley of tears

It refers to the hollow that forms over time under the eyebrows, between the top of the nose and the cheekbone.

Everything you need to know about dark circles

At what age can you get dark circles?

They sometimes appear as early as adolescence. There are multiple causes: dark circles can be hereditary, linked to skin aging, poor drainage, and lack of sleep ...

Why do dark circles develop, and how to tell the difference between age and non-age dark circles?

  • A large amount of melanin causes dark circles under the eyes. They usually appear on darker skin types. They’re also known as pigmentary dark circles.
  • Blue or purple circles are related to fatigue and generally appear when you wake up and become more pronounced during periods of stress. They’re also called dark vascular circles because their bluish color is due to poor blood circulation when blood pigments accumulate under the eyes. As we age, this phenomenon becomes more pronounced because the walls of the blood capillaries, which are responsible for microcirculation, become looser. Due to the decrease in collagen reserves, they are more permeable, and pigments escape more easily.
  • Dark circles can appear during skin aging, creating a shadowy facial area. They’re due to bone, muscle, dermal changes, and fat melting.
  • Dark circles, or bags, result from an accumulation of water and fat under the eyes. Poor lifestyle habits (alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of rest, etc.) can cause water retention. Lymphatic vessels can be linked to puffiness if they don’t fulfill their draining function.

A different treatment for every type of dark circle

●   Hyaluronic acid does not correct the color of blue and brown circles but brings a natural glow to the face thanks to its moisturizing properties. The face immediately looks less marked.

●   Hollow circles can be filled with an injection of hyaluronic acid. For a subtle and effective correction, the doctors at Maison Lutétia recommend gradual injections, with a first session for under-correction (deep injection) and a second possible session for over-correction (superficial injection). The relaxing effect is immediate and gives your face a real boost.

●   A hyaluronic acid injection can also treat dark circles (or bags). The expert doctor balances the volumes by injecting under the eye. The hollow between the nose, the cheek, and the eye area become plumper as if they were evened out. The pocket appears lifted and blends perfectly under the skin.

Good to know:

Since the eye contour area is low in hyaluronidase, the enzymes that destroy hyaluronic acid molecules, the results of injections last up to 18 months!

FAQ

Can a good beauty routine slow the skin’s aging process around the eyes?

When eyelids start to fall, the eyes look tired, and the face loses light. Crow's feet, and expression lines, tend to deepen over time. Unfortunately, no beauty routine can slow the skin's aging process. The delicate eye contour area requires a certain amount of expertise and state-of-the-art, customized aesthetic medicine treatments.

What tips do you have for rejuvenating your eyes?

  • Apply eye care products containing active ingredients such as caffeine, which is known for draining puffiness and dark circles. Vitamin C and Q10 boost cellular oxygenation. Escin, algae with stimulating properties, or hyaluronic acid, is known for plumping wrinkles.
  • Opt for lifting and firming treatments, especially those based on argan or other vegetable oils, which stimulate collagen synthesis to support the orbital framework.
  • Avoid makeup removers that are too "greasy": the delicate skin around the eyes has trouble tolerating rich materials.
  • Massage the eye area to boost blood circulation and drain dark circles.

What are your daily beauty routine tips?

The role of sleep: Nightime plays a vital role throughout the skin cells' lifecycle. Sheltered from external aggressions, this is the time when the skin works the most. When you sleep, the skin uses this time to regenerate and repair itself. When skin is deprived of sleep, its barrier functions deteriorate, microcirculation slows down, skin detoxification is more difficult, and dark circles and wrinkles appear.

Morning and evening products: It’s essential to provide daily care to your eyes, as the very delicate skin around the eyes dries out and marks easily. However, be careful to use serums and creams adapted to this fragile area with light, fragrance-free formulas.

Screens or digital pollution: All screens that emit blue light disrupt the circadian rhythm and prevent you from sleeping properly, which impacts the cell regeneration system. This blue light would also be harmful to the skin. With a short wavelength, it can penetrate the epidermis deeper than UV, especially in the eye area.

UV (ultraviolet radiation): UVA and UVB  are invisible lights from solar radiation. They have a different wavelength: UVA rays penetrate deeper into the dermis than UVB rays. Therefore, UVA rays are more often linked to skin aging, with the appearance of spots and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, while UVB rays cause sunburn.

What are the non-surgical solutions for drooping eyelids?

The medical solutions without going under the knife are PlexR (medical blepharoplasty), lifting threads (medical contouring), or/and a SoftLift protocol (medical facelift).

How to fill in wrinkles under the eyes?

An injection of hyaluronic acid is recommended to fill the wrinkles under the eyes.

I have a hollow face. What can I do?

Hyaluronic acid injections are recommended to fill, plump, and harmonize sagging volumes.

How to reduce the wrinkles next to the eyes?

An injection of botulinum toxin is recommended to smooth out crow's feet.

How to remove bags under the eyes without surgery?

To remove bags under the eyes without surgery, an injection of hyaluronic acid is recommended to rebalance the skin’s volume and conceal the circles.

Are there any natural remedies for frown lines?

There are no natural remedies for frown lines. A good skincare routine combined with a cosmetic medicine treatment plan can slow skin aging. The solution that seems to be the most effective in overcoming the glabella with an injection of botulinum toxin.

How to raise the tail of the eyebrows?

To raise the tail of the eyebrows, an injection of botulinum toxin and lifting threads may be recommended.

What are the latest eye rejuvenation techniques?

The latest rejuvenation techniques are French Botox, which allows for a smoothing of the eyes without removing the emotions, and the placement of tensor threads, which opens the eyes instantly and brings elegance to the face.
